Key Stage 5 (Years 12-13)

 

 

Key stage 5 (Years 12-13)

 

At Key stage 5 students follow courses that lead to International ‘A’ Levels, these exams are accredited by the University of Cambridge International Examinations.

 

Students can take courses in English Language; English Literature; History and Geography, following an ‘arts’ based route. Alternatively than can choose to Physics; Chemistry; Biology and Maths, following a more Science based route. ITC and ‘A’ levels are also available.   The students also take non examination subjects such as Swimming and PE.

 

The students in Key Stage 5 are taught by specialist teachers and have around 5-6 lessons a week for private study. At this level a lot of the emphasis is placed on the student being responsible for their own learning.

Assessment

Each student is continually assessed daily and they are tested regularly to track progress that is being made. In year 12 and 13 they are given mock ‘A’ level exams, which are based on the exam papers they will take at the end of the course. These are given to assess progress, so that we can make sure that students are achieving their full potential.

Homework

Homework is given to enable our students to practice skills and consolidate knowledge introduced in class. In Year 12 and 13 students are expected to complete at least 2 and half hours of homework a day. This work is vital to their progress, they are expected to read around the topics they are covering or practice problems that they have worked on in class
