The Early Years –The Foundation Stage

The Foundation Stage is for children aged 3-5 years and covers the years they spend from the beginning of Nursery to the end of the Reception class.

At ISZ we believe that purposeful play which is well-planned will engage children in the learning process.  Key skills such as listening, speaking, concentration and working cooperatively are developed.  We follow The UK Government’s ‘Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage’.  Activities are planned under the following broad areas of the curriculum.


 

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Communication, Language and Literacy

Mathematical Development

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Physical Development

Creative Development


 

Reception


 

In Reception purposeful play continues to be an important vehicle by which young children learn.  To give children a good start when they move to Key Stage one, teaching and learning begins to become more formalised.  Children are taught Literacy and Numeracy based on the British National Curriculum. Individual reading programmes are also introduced.
