MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD TEACHER

Hello and welcome to the website of the International School of Zanzibar.

We are an exceptional and expanding International School, set in beautiful surroundings and offering a first rate education to classes from Nursery to Year 13, which helps to foster a community and family feel to the school.

Our enthusiastic, experienced and qualified teachers, like our students, come from all over the world; this means that the students benefit from being part of a multicultural environment. To further this, the school community respects local cultures and takes every opportunity to participate in island life.

Small class sizes allow each student to develop socially and academically, this also allows for that all important one to one attention that is needed, so that students can succeed and reach their potential. Class sizes also ensure that our pastoral care is second to none and we can help and advise students, as we actually know them and they aren’t just a ‘face in the crowd’.

Our school follows the British National Curriculum and in the secondary school students take IGCSE and 'A' level exams in a wide range of subjects. Although, we are based on a tropical island we still believe in academic rigor and children are assessed at regular intervals, children self assess, are set targets and also set themselves targets. This means that we can move the students forward academically and they are also responsible for their own learning.

However, ISZ isn’t all about academia, we have a vibrant, active and varied extracurricular programme where students can try their hand at Korean Swordsmanship, judo, capoeria and ballet. Also on offer, there is the opportunity to play football, become a volunteer or learn the guitar and violin.
