'QUALITY EDUCATION FOR ALL'

At the International School of Zanzibar:

  • We aim to make teaching and learning active and interactive, stimulating and enjoyable.
  • Teaching is sensitive to individual needs and learning styles so that students can aim towards achieving their full potential.
  • The curriculum has a global perspective, allowing students to develop their understanding of national and cultural diversity.
  • We foster an understanding and appreciation of Zanzibar; the culture and environment in which the children currently find themselves.
  • Teachers seek opportunities whereby schemes of work and other syllabus components can be ‘localised’ thus enabling children to achieve more realistic perspectives through being able to identify with locally oriented aspects of the island of Zanzibar.
  • Teaching takes place in a positive, safe, and stimulating environment in which self-respect, self-esteem and an acceptance of others are fostered.
  • Teachers act as role models for positive behaviour, encouraging children to have respect for others and their environment.
  • We offer a broad and balanced, relevant curriculum which offers continuity and consistency.
  • Our curriculum is planned to provide progression through the school. The children experience a range of subjects which develop their academic, aesthetic, creative, physical, personal and social skills. Evidence of this diversity is evident in classroom organisation, resources, displays, children’s work and assembly presentations.
  • We foster independent and group thinking, problem solving and collaborative and personal skills.
  • A sense of value and respect for the environment is evident in our teaching and learning.
  • We provide regular feedback on student performance through assessment and reporting procedures.
  • We interact with and seek to be an active part of our local community.
  • We aim to encourage a partnership between home and school, parents and teachers.

At the International School of Zanzibar we aim to:

  • Provide a broad, balanced and stimulating curriculum based upon the National Curriculum for England and Wales.
  • Promote high academic standards and a high level of practical knowledge in an environment which supports each child in achieving his or her full potential.
  • Provide a safe, supportive and welcoming environment in which children are encouraged to care for and respect others and their property.
  • Encourage children to develop an enquiring mind and to become creative and independent learners.
  • Equip children with skills and strategies for current and future life.
  • Develop an awareness of and respect for cultures other than one’s own.
  • Provide an aesthetically stimulating environment which informs and inspires the whole school community and fosters happy and motivated children.
  • Develop a partnership between pupils, parents, staff and Board members and generate links with the wider community.
  • Promote a respect and concern for the natural environment.
