Better yet, what is EAMUN not? It’s short lunch and long debates, frustration and excitement.
Nairobi’s UN building (the only UN headquarters in the Southern Hemisphere) is massive. Giant conference rooms, a large and green outdoors area, and its own little ecozone with koi fish swimming beside the roads as you walk into the building. On the first day, we were lucky enough to be allowed in through the main gates, and we got to walk through the several hundred meters long road lined with flags from all nations.
I was starstruck by the place and the fact that I was there, together with so many other smart people. We also had the privilege of having the Director General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Zainab Hawa Bangura herself, speak to us, imprinting the privilege we had to participate in EAMUN and encouraging us to seize the opportunity that we all had.
Overall, the conference was amazing. Resolutions led to exciting debates and these discussions changed the way I think of politics – from ideological to practical, from what to how.
