LEARNING TECHNOLOGIES
GOOGLE FOR EDUCATION
How we use Google Classroom:
For middle and high school students, using technology is part of the daily learning routine. ISZ uses Google Classroom as our online learning platform. Google Classroom aims to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments in a paperless way. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students. Google Classroom combines Google Drive for assignment creation and distribution, Google Docs, Sheets and Slides for assignments, Gmail for communication, and Google Calendar for scheduling.
Students are invited to join a class through a private code, or automatically imported from a school domain. Each class creates a separate folder in the respective user’s Drive, where the student can submit work to be graded by a teacher. Google Classroom and its mobile apps let our students take photos and attach to assignments, share files from other apps, and access information offline. ISZ teachers monitor the progress for each student, and after being graded, teachers return work along with comments.
KHAN ACADEMY
How we use Khan Academy:
ISZ teachers supplement classroom learning with many different online resources. One of them is Khan Academy. Khan Academy aims to provide a personalized learning experience, mainly built on the videos which are hosted on YouTube.
The website is meant to be used as a supplement to classroom learning and includes features such as progress tracking, practice exercises, and teaching tools. The teaching videos display a recording of drawings on an electronic blackboard, which are similar to the style of a teacher giving a lecture. The narrator describes each drawing and how they relate to the material being taught. ISZ students and parents enjoy the freedom Khan Academy gives them to work at home at each child’s own personal level and pace.
