OUR STORY

ISZ started with just 1 teacher and 5 students over three decades ago. In 1988, a group of internationally diverse parents recognized the need for an international school education for their children and the surrounding community. The International School of Zanzibar was established as the first international non-profit school in Zanzibar. Since then, ISZ has gone from strength to strength with graduates and alumni who have made successful careers in Zanzibar and abroad. We are a vibrant community of learners who strive to offer the best possible educational services to the expatriate and local communities of Zanzibar.

We offer internationally recognized Early Years, Primary and Secondary Curricula. We offer a wide range of extracurricular activities to make sure that our students are challenged as they grow with us and are fully equipped and prepared to continue their education beyond our shores.

Our campus has grown with several buildings having been added over the years. The Library block was built in 1997 and the current lower secondary block in 2007, with the most recent addition being 3 new senior secondary classrooms in 2021. The multi-purpose Hall is one of our pride projects and is regularly used for many school and community events.

Presently, ISZ has approximately 170 students from 20 different countries. We are committed to providing an international education to our culturally diverse students that empowers them to be successful in their studies and careers throughout the world.
