The Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The PTA is a way to bring together parents, teachers and the local community to support the school with its educational missions and to provide an opportunity for everyone to work together towards a common goal.

PTA Aims:

  • to promote close co-operation and communication between parents and the school;
  • to discuss matters of mutual interest relating to the education and welfare of the students;
  • to engage in activities which support and advance the education of students attending the school;
  • to raise funds to help the school provide resources (non-budgetary) and extra equipment;
  • to run social events for parents and children.

The PTA committee holds meetings on a regular basis (usually every month). These meetings provide an opportunity for parents to communicate with the school community; make suggestions and discuss matters pertaining to the welfare of the pupils; organise and plan events; and discuss the allocation of funds raised.

Our fundraising initiatives over the past few years have been successful, generating thousands of dollars. The success of these events is attributed not only to the enormous efforts of the PTA, but to the amount of support received from parents, pupils, staff and the wider school community.  Money raised by the PTA has helped fund the concrete floor in the Hall, buy tents for events held at the school, purchase a new popcorn machine and partially funded the secondary school lockers. The PTA has organised events such as the annual craft fair, the music festival, the celebrate diversity fair and movie nights.

All parents, teachers and school staff can get involved even if you only have a small amount of time available. You are welcome to join the committee in arranging and organising a range of events for both children and parents throughout the year. All meetings are open where anyone can turn up to hear what is in the pipeline or suggest new ideas. After that you can decide how much or how little you want to get involved: maybe you can bake a cake, sell some raffle tickets or help plan one of the fairs/events. It is up to you!  Everyone on the PTA is a volunteer who has a family and a busy life, and any help that anyone can give is greatly appreciated. The PTA can only remain active with the help of volunteers. We therefore hope you will come along and enjoy some events and the PTA will make yours and your children’s time at ISZ that little bit more fun.
