One of the true highlights of over 30 years in education is the joy of reconnecting with past students. Whether it’s a chance meeting in a grocery store, at the airport, or even while on holiday, the conversation inevitably begins with the same question: “What are you doing now?”

Hearing these now young adults eloquently and confidently share their journeys—professional successes, personal milestones, and passions—never fails to fill me with pride. These are the moments that remind me why I chose this rewarding yet challenging profession. To know that I played a small part in their growth and success is deeply fulfilling and reinforces my belief in the transformative power of education.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in several international schools, each unique yet united in their commitment to their students. I am grateful that my and Sharon’s journey has brought us to the International School of Zanzibar, a place of warmth, and community.
